Living Cocoon, by Bob Hendrikx Courtesy of Bob Hendrikx There have been plenty of design solutions to the funeral industry’s sustainability crisis , from liquid cremation to biodegradable burial pods. Loop of Life is billed as “the world’s first living coffin” and has been designed by Bob Hendrikx. It is made from mycelium (a fungal network of mushroom) which is an “effective recycler”. It transforms organic matter into nutrients for the ground, thereby creating a “loop” after someone’s death. Water in the soil “re-activates” the mycelium and it becomes a part of the natural landscape in 45 days, which means that it can become a source of nutrients for wildlife again. The inside of the coffin is filled with moss which “not only feels good but also contributes to the composting process”. Pantone unveils new shade of red to tackle stigma around menstruation

Pantone has released a new shade of red which aims to address the stigma around menstruation. The colour, called Period, has been launched in partnership with Swedish period care brand Intimina, as part of its new campaign Seen + Heard. As the name suggests, the initiative aims to “make menstruation more visible and normalise this most normal of bodily functions”, according to the brand. The Pantone System of swatches has been around since 1963, and was originally devised in the US to address the complicated problem of colour matching in the print industry. As of 2020, there are more than 2,600 colours in its swatch book. This is not the first time Pantone has teamed up with a brand to devise a unique colour – other examples include Tiffany & Co.’s 1897 Blue, Coca-Cola’s Coke Red and Starbucks’ Starbucks Green. “A visual identifier” Period is a deep shape of red, which Pantone Color Institute vice president Laurie Pressman says inspired by a “steady menstrual flow”. New challenger bank Hay gives finance a friendly feel

New Australian challenger bank Hay has centred its identity on a friendly, informal tone, sitting it comfortably among the cohort of fintech start-ups that are putting a clearer, more human spin on managing finances. The Hay logomark comprises elements of an exclamation mark to highlight “the energy of the name and the brand’s attitude”, according to Sydney-based creative studio Christopher Doyle & Co, which led the branding, naming and positioning. The look and feel is simple yet lively, thanks in part to a set of motion graphics that make effective use of the logomark, and messaging which plays with the brand name to create a chatty tone. The colour palette and constituent parts of the logo share parallels with messaging platform Slack, reinforcing the idea that challenger banks like Hay are closer to tech startups than seemingly staid traditional banks – a perception that’s recently prompted the likes of NatWest and First Direct to experiment with new positioning. ch

Olimpia Zagnoli puts an abstract spin on Dior’s new collection

Dior’s new Fall 2020 collection has been playfully reimagined as vibrant illustrations by Italian artist and illustrator Olimpia Zagnoli .
