Sheffield Theatres’ rebrand evokes the power of live performance

It’s Sheffield Theatres’ first rebrand in a decade, and needed to help the organisation re-establish its presence – which Cafeteria says was getting lost in the publicity around specific shows. Previously, the company had been using an all-lowercase serif wordmark, which Cafeteria has replaced with the much less meek Anton, from Google fonts. Its condensed proportions also come in handy for typesetting long titles, and Work Sans is used for supporting copy. Together with a bright palette, this forms a frame for all of Sheffield Theatres’ current and future productions, paired with equally bright photography and illustration. The studio designed a three-column grid that allows emphasis to be given to either well-known titles or strong imagery, depending on the play. Cafeteria has also added what it describes as a “distinct graphic flourish” in the form of an exclamation mark that replaces the i in Sheffield. “From Peck Design Associates, Bienal, and Human” A triple serving of food and beverage establishments this week, with work from Nashville, Mérida, and Mexico City. Makeready by Peck Design Associates Makeready is a beer hall and restaurant in Nashville, TN's Printers Alley that exudes a hard work ethic, from its name to the way it describes itself to the identity, designed by local firm Peck Design Associates . Playing off of the saying "Burn the candle at both ends", the identity uses a series of semi-mirrored illustrations -- in the faces one is smiling, one frowning and in the sign one hand holds a fork the other a paint roller -- that add an irreverent touch to the foundation of the more serious and seriously excellent typography throughout, from logos to menu to signage. McDonald’s ads turn making breakfast into an art form

TBWA\Paris has pulled off the impressive feat of making processed food look beautiful in its campaign for McDonald’s all-day breakfast menu in France. The agency worked with 3D animator Matthieu Braccini on a series of gifs that show different elements of making the fast food chain’s famed Egg McMuffin. They depict everything from slicing and toasting muffins to perfectly cylindrical poached eggs and layers of orange hued American cheese. Braccini has compiled a director’s cut video of the gifs, which have been running on the brand’s Facebook page, featuring a similarly alluring, ASMR-style audio by French electronic music producer Adrobski. TBWA\Paris has developed a knack for adding an extra layer of beauty to the McDonald’s offering – the agency’s previous work for the fast food chain includes impressionistic ads for its McDelivery service , and a minimalist wayfinding campaign using its instantly recognisable french fries . Interview with Martin James Power and Steve Waring, Founders of Ensemble

Martin James Power and Steve Waring met a few years ago when they were both teaching part-time at Shillington Manchester . Finding themselves to be two kindred spirits, with a similar ethos and approach to design, they began to collaborate. Two years ago, these collaborations turned in to Martin and Steve starting their own studio, Ensemble , specialising in design and brand strategy. We caught up with Martin and Steve just after Martin had finished his last term teaching at Shillington Manchester to talk about why they decided to open a studio together, their tips for standing out in a first interview and the benefits of hiring a Shillington graduate. Out of the 30+ briefs that students are given during our  graphic design course  at Shillington , the Handmade project is often a firm favourite. It gives the students a chance to get off the computer, think outside the box and create something amazing with their hands—and, with this, comes unlimited possibilities.  We looked back and chose fourteen of our students’ handmade projects that boggled our minds—using everything from flowers and origami to toast and marmalade to create a record sleeve, film poster or book cover. 1. Wonderwall by Oasis—Theodora Lamprinaki, Manchester Theodora Lamprinaki created a record sleeve design for the 1995 Oasis single ‘Wonderwall’ using the string art technique of weaving coloured string around nails to create patterns. Theodora chose the string art technique to indicate the connection to a soulmate, metaphorically referred to in the song as a “wonderwall”. Label printer tackles variable data and graphics, plus QC

Printing labels with high-quality graphics plus real-time variable data, such as barcodes, is challenging—particularly for pharmaceutical packaging applications, in which serialized data is essential for track and trace. The new Autonomy IV on-demand digital printer is taking on this labeling challenge, along with quality control (QC) features. From Weiler Labeling Systems (WLS) , a ProMach Product Brand, part of the Pharma Business Line, the Autonomy IV label printer can print most barcode formats and human-readable codes, including serialized data. The ultraviolet (UV)-curing, drop-on-demand (DOD) system can also print color or black-and-white graphics at speeds up to 3,050 inches (77meters)/min. Packagers can use the system to print real-time variable data on pre-printed labels or perform on-demand printing of the entire label.
